Mobiya’s presentation at Fit for the Future Magazines 2008 conference

Today I presented at the ‘Fit for the Future’ Magazines 2008 Conference, the annual conference organized by PPA. PPA is the association for publishers and providers of consumer, customer and business media in the UK.

The topic of our session was Data on the Move and the was hosted by Jerry Gosney, chairman of Data Publishers Association (DPA) and RBI Search. DPA is promoting and protecting the interests of all companies operating in the directory and data publishing and search sector.

Speakers in our session include Ajit Jaokar, Futuretext, Douglas Macdonald, Sponge and Robert Thurner, Incentivated. In a very balanced and complementary way we walked the audience through a mashup of 120 slides about mobile market knowledge, experiences and cases. Some highlights:

Golden rules for mobile marketing, according to Douglas Macdonald (things to know):

  • It’s about psychology, not technology
  • It’s about permission, be invited, don’t intrude
  • Understand when to push and when to pull
  • When you open a channel, "you open a channel!"

Ajit Jaokor broke a few mobile myths (things to be aware off…):

  • Mobile youth is a myth
  • Content is not king, context is king!
  • Brands are not enough

And Ajit continued (things to watch…)

  • Location based services: local can work.
  • Snack culture and content (i.e. Wired March 2007).
  • MMS, Mobile web and widgets
  • India and China

Robert made it very easy for us and shares his excellent overview of real life cases as following: send an SMS with the word PPA (space) you@yourmail.com to 62233.

ICMA conference day 1: mobile classifieds

Img_20754_2 The International Classified Media Association brought together 150 people from the world’s classified industry in the centre of Amsterdam to discuss the future of classified media. All continents have representatives and members are sharing best practices during the break-out sessions.

To our big surprise, and during the keynote speech, Mobiya was headlined as a leading innovator in this enormous industry. The theme "100% Digital" soon drifted from an online discussion to the readiness of mobile media and the opportunity of mobile classifieds.

The presentations and panel discussions from mobile thought leaders such as Bob Cauthorn, CEO of Citytools (USA), Jan Webering, CEO of Sevenval (Germany) and Felix Erken, MD of the #1 classified media publisher Junk Mail in South Africa all stressed that mobile is the basis of a serious disruption in the digital classified space.

More to come…

Mobiya presenting at Flanders iD to stimulate entrepreneurship

Logo_fidMobiya has the opening presentation at Flanders iD – Inception and Development conference organized by the well-respected Vlerick Management School. The keynote is brought by Bruno Segers, former MD of Microsoft Belux, and recently appointed as chairman of Aventiv, a fast growing technology startup near our Belgian offices.

Fascinating to see the topic of the keynote presentation ‘Corporate spirit in a Startup’ as we struggled to explain the importance of corporate thinking to many startup investors and business angels. Certain investors would like to switch off the corporate mindset of young entrepreneurs. Our beliefs at Mobiya: Long live The Boardroom Entrepreneur! You agree?

Oxford, UK | The Future of Mobile

Yesterday saw the inaugural ForumOxford Future Technologies Conference hosted at Oxford University, Engeland and attended by a high calibre international audience including speakers and attendees from Finland, USA, Korea, Hong Kong and Qatar to name a few.

This has to rank in the top ten of any industry networking event I have attended over the past 20 years with an excellent profile and mixture of attendees and presentations, and fast paced discussion – vibrant and engaging all thanks to the preparation and chairmanship of the event.

Headlined by Google alongside representatives from Vodafone, Hutchinson Whampoa (three), mobile application vendors, academics, opinion makers and industry experts the discussions were focused around Mobile and Web 2.0 and emerging business models with topics including mobile commerce and technology futures.

Thanks to Ajit Jaokar at Futuretext, industry expert Tomi Ahone and host Peter Holland for a terrific event… I am looking forward to the next one, meanwhile I will be watching the international leaders shape the future of mobile online at ForumOxford.
